Hanna was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. When she was very young, her family moved to the United States for better opportunities. When she was 11 years old she was accepted into the Preuss School UCSD. Her acceptance into this transformative charter school allowed her new opportunities; one of the most impactful opportunities was her ability to join Access Youth Academy. For the past 7 years, Hanna has been a top tier student throughout her high school experience. She has not only shown excellence within her own academic performance but also through aiding others with their work and comprehension. Hanna is also an accomplished athlete. On January 19-22, Hanna attended the National Urban Team Squash Championships. Hanna Balcha played as number 1 in her team section and she was Access Youth Academy’s team captain throughout the tournament. She went undefeated throughout the tournament. This was the 6th consecutive national championship that Hanna has won. This past June, Hannah graduated high school with honors. Currently, she is attending Dartmouth College. In total, Hanna was accepted to 19 colleges.
