SAN DIEGO – Nov. 16, 2013 – Access Youth Academy strongly supports community service throughout the San Diego region. On November 16th, Team 5 and 6 of Access volunteered for the canyon restoration project in City Heights. They were toured by rangers and given varying tasks of work. Some of these difficult tasks included painting over graffiti, picking up trash left behind, and planting indigenous vegetation along the canyon. Students worked hard for a full 4 hours improving the cleanliness of the canyon and restoring plant life.
Although the work was dangerous, Access accepted the challenge and succeeded to make the canyon a better place. They were also told by one of the three rangers that they “had been one of the best groups since I started this 4 years ago.” Access’ priority on community service does not stop at canyon restoration, they have scheduled for volunteers to attend the Hunger Project as well. 🙂
